Biomimetic is a spin off company from the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) at the Foundation of Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH). The company is expertise in the exploitation of technologies that mimic the structures and functionalities of various species found in Nature, following many years of research at the Ultrafast Laser Micro and Nano Processing Laboratory of IESL. Our aim is to transform common materials such as glass and metals to present optimal combinations of anti-reflective, anti-glare, anti-fogging, water-repellent and many other stunning properties.
The technology
Unlike other nanotexturing technologies, Biomimetic’s technology relies on the use of pulsed lasers. Through proper control of the laser parameters, Biomimetic can control matter rearrangement on the nanometer scale. This introduces a selective surface texture that gives rise to novel material properties, depending on the texture’s geometry.
